THE RECOVERING ARTIST

I thought it was time to properly introduce myself and share a little of my journey…. I smoked like an artist, drank like an artist, struggled like an artist. I lived on little, in old warehouses, turning creative intuition into cash wherever I could. SUCCESS? SOME MIGHT SAY SO… Studios in exotic locations. Winner of a major art prize. Spinning plates. Some teaching at cool art schools. Published, explored, partied. Drank like an artist… THEN, THE CLOUDS PARTED… After nearly 30 years of drinking like an artist, I stopped-with the birth of my second child. That's when I realised: I'd been masking a lifetime of stress, anxiety ...and eventually uncovered something not uncommon among us creatives: Asperger's.
But out of the rubble, l've begun to uncover profound truths: To be truly creative is to embrace our divergent thinking, our depth, and the potential we bring to the world. Yet, this is being drowned out-by consumption culture, screen tech, and noise. The most heartbreaking loss? Our kids' connection to their own creativity. I call it 'Deep Creativity… A profound, underused superpower we all possess. For decades, it's been distorted by the values of the "art world." But it's still here, waiting to be reclaimed. I believe our Deep Creativity holds the key-To solving everything from ecological devastation to the conflicts tearing cultures apart. Today, My work is to use my creativity to help others unlock theirs: To bounce ideas with other artists. Awaken executives. Prepare students. Inspire politicians. It's about rediscovering the depth of what's inside us and bringing it to the world.
